NABlogoIt’s that time again! We’re packing up our giant phone and heading to Vegas with lots to show you. Will you be there? What can you expect to see from us this year? Will you spot a mohawk? All of your important questions will be answered April 11th in NextRadio Booth C8049. More details below.

Leading up to the show though, we’ve been pretty excited about this: Early signs indicated enthusiasm, but we couldn’t be happier with the continued great response coming through from the consumer awareness campaign for FM radio on the smartphone.

It’s the darndest thing: When people are made aware that they could have access to free FM radio entertainment and information right on the device that is already in their pockets, they get excited about it. And in many cases, they’re excited enough to take action. And that consumer action is exactly what is needed to move the conversations about activating those FM tuners forward with wireless carriers and device makers.

You can see some immediate results of that campaign reflected in today’s stats below…

By the numbers

  • Over 2,000,000 app downloads (!!!)
  • Over 11,450 FM radio stations tuned to from the app
  • Over 3,625,000 hours of listening through NextRadio
  • A 4/5 Google Play Store user rating

Heading strong into the NAB Show

Consumer interest momentum.
As noted above, we are pleased to report that, YES! Consumers would appreciate an FM option on their smartphones. This, according to the incredible response we’ve gotten to the ads airing on radio stations all over the country letting people know about it.

Some campaign results which were outlined in the press release that went out last week include a 53% increase in daily NextRadio app downloads as well as hundreds of thousands of visitor sessions on the advocacy website resulting in a terrific volume of consumer demand aimed at wireless carriers. Short of government agencies’ involvement in FM chip activation, this kind of consumer action is imperative. As Emmis CEO Jeff Smulyan said in his keynote at NABA’s 2015 Future of Radio & Audio Symposium last month, “We have strength, and the strength is in our voices.”

Due to the great response, as well as the constructive feedback we received, we’re keeping the ball rolling with your help. A second flight of commercials is currently being scheduled for April through the end of June. The ads themselves have been refreshed with more options that focus on the benefits of an activated smartphone FM radio – the types of ads that have received the best response.

Moving Forward

M9andFlex2Continued progress with phones… the brand new LG G Flex 2 and the much-anticipated HTC One M9 are now available preloaded with the NextRadio app through Sprint. And good news for prepaid fans: the Moto E has always been FM-enabled, but now Motorola’s most affordable phone comes preloaded with NextRadio on both Sprint prepaid plans and Boost Mobile! Visit our growing list of supported devices to see the full line-up of phones that support NextRadio. And with a little help from this campaign, we hope that list will begin growing even faster.

We’ll be back after the Show with some more exciting announcements. Until then, THANK YOU for your continued support with the campaign, and we look forward to seeing you in Las Vegas!
