Closing in on the end of 2014, we find ourselves proud to have had a terrific year that saw new partnerships, new support, and a bold new release of the NextRadio app, but also excited for what next year has in store. One of the first orders of business is an appearance at January’s International Consumer Electronics Show – more about that in the heart of this post. But before we get into the details, we head into this exciting new year with a spring in our step. This past weekend, NextRadio hit 2 million hours of listening almost 3 months to the day after we announced at the Radio Show that we would double the first year. At this rate of growth, the first year of 1 million hours will be 4 million hours in year two – or 400% growth in listening time predicted. That’s a pretty bright looking future.

WHO & WHERE: NextRadio will be joining HD Radio in iBiquity Digital’s booth #8232 (see map) at the 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show – Where Innovation Does Business – January 6-9 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
WHAT: Since the announcement in September at the Radio Show that iBiquity and TagStation would partner on a broadcast radio solution for the connected car dashboard, we’ve been working together feverishly to complete a demo to unveil by CES. Come by the booth to see that demo live and check out where the solution stands today. We think you’ll love what you see. It combines the broadcast enhancements that HD Radio and TagStation already deliver so well with ease-of-use and driver safety considerations automakers demand for their displays.
WHY: Keeping broadcast radio competitive in the ever-evolving automobile dashboard is one of the most important challenges our industry faces. Radio currently enjoys its prime spot in automobiles, but with the inclusion of new ways for drivers to consume news, traffic, entertainment and more, we must fight hard to continue to stand out. We already know people love their radio, but in such a newly crowded space, this interface demands the attention radio deserves and capitalizes on the connection listeners feel towards their local stations.
So as progress continues on development, what can broadcasters do to prepare for this new in-dash solution? Great news: Many of you are already there!
